Margaret & Thomas – Telluride Wedding Photographer

Legend has it that the name Telluride gets it’s name from “To hell you ride” because the journey to mine gold was quite treacherous. I’ll tell you first hand that the worst thing about Telluride is getting there. The best thing? Literally everything else. When Margaret and Thomas asked me if I’d shoot their wedding in Telluride I didn’t even have to think about it. First of all, Thomas is taller than I am therefor I couldn’t say no. Also Margaret and I instantly bonded over trash television, specifically season 12 of the Bachelorette and how I picked Jordan to win it all. And he did.

All joking aside, Telluride was always on my bucket list both as a place to visit and a place to shoot a wedding. A wedding at the San Sophia Overlook has you sitting at 10,500 feet and looking down to the town itself at ~8500 feet which is immediately boxed in by 13-14,000 foot San Juan mountain range. There aren’t a lot of places in Colorado with such extreme peaks and valleys in such a close area. Short of Yosemite or the Grand Canyon I can’t think of much that rivals the scale of everything. Margaret and Thomas were amazingly gracious hosts and the day was super fun and the Tomboy Tavern at the Mountain Lodge resort was such a cool and stylish reception venue. My only regret was not staying an extra couple days to explore the area more.
