When I met with Jon and Chrissy to take their engagement photos way back I was instantly drawn to them. Historically I’m pretty suspicious of people that seem happy all the time, you know the type of person I’m talking about, but these two are on a different wavelength and it’s infectious. The laughs and the smiles and the jokes and the cheese just don’t stop. They simply do not let opportunities to laugh at/with each other go to waste. Not even when that opportunity happens to be during the middle of your own wedding ceremony when your husband to be has his phone go off in the middle of your vows. There were laughs to be had all day. Like when it started snowing despite being September. Like when a groomsman ran into a field to successfully befriend a horse. Like when the bride got horse poop on her dress. The laughing was endless.
I had high expectations of Devil’s Thumb as it had been on my venue bucket list for quite a long time. Despite the ridiculous snow a month too early I was fully impressed with the place. Once it was determined that the ceremony site outside was going to be too miserable thanks to the weather the staff was able to take an already set up reception hall and turn it over into a ceremony site and then back into a reception hall in the blink of an eye. I honestly can’t think of many venues I’ve been to that could pull that off. Special shout out to The Day Of for their incredible coordination.
Other noteworthy events included a surprise mariachi band. Late night taco bar. And the tallest average height of a wedding guest list that I have ever seen. We’re talking tall guys and tall girls. There aren’t usually more than one or two people in my stratosphere at any given wedding but this one must’ve had over a dozen. And the party was SO awesome.
